Last day there, first thing broken in seven years.

Last day there, first thing broken in seven years.

It was a dark and stormy night, except it wasn’t dark, it was around 3pm, and it still wasn’t that stormy….. the dreaded East Coast Low Sydney Storm still had not hit.

We still haven’t really caught our breath yet from the move. We have boxes everywhere, but at least have made our bedroom livable, and the living room bedable comfortable. While Amos was over at her old place finishing up a few things (and her father was breaking things), I thought I would take the opportunity to do the washing up from the last few days that had piled up while we had more important things to do.

So there I was, in the kitchen, blasting out some My Morning Jacket, thinking to myself “gee, that wind is starting to pick up”, when suddenly there is a crunch, a crash, and a pop as the power goes out.

My first thought, someone has driven into a power pole, was not quite correct. There was a car involved, but it was completely stationary. Have a look for yourself.

While it did give me an excuse to meet more of the neighbours while the power is out, it wasn’t the best of circumstances. That little brand new VW Golf  belongs to the girlfriend of the son of the Greek family across the street. It was less than two weeks old, and was her first brand new car. She’s insured, and taking it on the chin, but still rather sad. Our neighbour, where the tree was actually in front of their home, told us he has tried to get the tree removed for thirty years.

Guess they don’t have any other option now. Lets hope as this Sydney storm from this year’s June east coast low doesn’t bring the rest of it down as it intensifies.
